Compared to the other pads in this segment its foam inserts are shaped to be very minimalist and the top layer of the pad that comes in contact with the rider is entirely smooth. Century Fabric was developed for cycling!

The Men's Century Padded Bike Short is designed for peak performance when cycling. To achieve that goal, we use our century fabric with an excellent chamois pad.

FABRIC:  Our century fabric is a warp knit with a highly technical blend of spun microfibers that are rugged and durable.  The fabric is knit with all way stretch ability. It has a high Sun Protection Factor and is very cool in the heat.  The fibers are a blend of 83% polyester and 17% Lycra Spandex.  The Lycra helps support your leg and hip muscles during the cycling activity.  To describe the touch or feel of the fabric would be to relate it to a slick cottony material with a matt black finish.  It is a lux rich feel that is not shiny or textured.  The fabric has a cool and dry feel to it.

gripper elastic on apparel

LEG ELASTICS:  The leg elastics are soft, non binding and feel like a second skin.  Elastics are silicone so they are soft  next to your skin, they do not pick at your body hair and feel invisible once you start riding on your bike.  The elastic on the legs are luxury Italian knitted materials that function to keep the shorts in place when your ride.  The legs stay in place and do not move while actively riding on long rides.   The top stitching of the leg elastics are with a 3-step zig sag stitch that is stretchable yet perfectly smooth next to the moving skin.  This means they leg elastics are highly functional yet very comfortable.

To enhance the key performance indicators, we  use all the softest stitching techniques.  The waist elastic on this padded short is one inch wide non-roll.  The waist is coverstitched with a flat, stretchable seam that hold the short at the waist.  The shorts are fairly high in the waist so the back is fully covered in the bent over cycling position.  All of the seams are as soft as they can be so that longer rides can be comfortable. Primary seams are flatlocked with a four needle flatlock stitch that is soft next to your skin.  All of the sewn seams are flat as can be, plus the chamois pad is seamless.

Great fit, very comfortable on multi-day, long-distance rides
Presently using these shorts to cycle the Pacific coast from Vancouver to the Mexico border. I€™ve done several long distance rides (like cycling across the United States last year) and these shorts are by far the most comfortable I€™ve ever had. My only wish is that they would be available in other colors, like signal orange, hi-viz yellow or green, or even dark gray.

After reading the reviews, I bought 2 pairs of the butt pillow shorts, which I hoped would keep me comfortable on long rides scheduled for late in the summer. Neither pair was as good as either my other bike shorts or the 3 Aerotech bibshorts I also own. Both butt pillow shorts were good for 30-40 miles. They continued to be mediocre even after I changed my bike saddle (I used to ride an SMP TRK; now I use a WSD Softail, purchased at Performance Bike--yes, WSD because my hips are wide). The pad in the butt pillow shorts isn't any thicker than an ordinary pad either. When I held it up next to an ordinary pair of bike shorts that is several years old, the ordinary pad was slightly thicker. Aerotech also seems to be falling behind style-wise. Other makers of bike shorts and bibshorts now use wide bands instead of narrow ones around the thighs. The shorts I purchased from Aerotech this year contain narrow bands. The new bibshorts look identical to the bibshorts I bought from Aerotech several years ago. As a tall and big man (6'5"/250), I'm glad that Aerotech is around and caters to people like me. That said, I think the products need work.

Found it!
Finally shorts that work, breathe, and look good. I have tried numerous shorts only to find that they don't work well for me. I'm very happy and will be replacing my others with these. Not sure if they will work for 100 miles but know that they are good on 35 plus.
Pros-Light -good fit -American made -value for the money
Cons...not BOGO

Century cycling short
I have purchased cycling clothing in the past from Aerotech and have been pleased with the product and service. These century shorts are my favorite of all the shorts I have tried from Aerotech. I am 6'2'', 180 pounds and suffer from "noassatall". I use these shorts for daily rides of 20 miles and longer group rides. The shorts last me a full season ( 8-9 Months), machine wash / air dry, before the material begins to loose it's elasticity and stretch. The four star rating is because the last two pair of shorts I ordered look dark purple instead of black like the previous shorts I have ordered.

What a major disappointment
I have several Aerotech items and have generally been very pleased with them, but these "butt pillow" cycling shorts are a major disappointment. Marketed specifically as a "butt pillow" solution for long rides, they do not appear to have any characteristics to support that claim. I ordered a size XL, which is charted as suitable for waist sizes 40-42. Despite being on the very lower end of that waist size, these were very snug at all points. The material is the most sheer (thin and almost see-through) of any cycling shorts I've seen. The chamois is no thicker than any other cycling shorts and perhaps even thinner. The shorts do have good panel coverage all around, so the sheerness isn't a major issue. I paid extra for expedited shipping to get these in advance of a metric century ride, but due to the size and quality issues I choose to not wear them and return them. Ironically, I wore a different pair of Aerotech shorts and had no saddle problems during that ride. I recommend Aerotech either up the quality of these shorts or at least remove the false marketing approach.
ProsLightweight Decent panel coverage
ConsRun a full size smaller than advertised Chamois is poor quality Inaccurate advertising as "butt pillow" for long rides

Great product
These shorts are the best shorts I've used yet. The butt pillow is exactly what I've been searching for. Not neat as bulky as most padded shorts, but the technology is definitely one that makes this product worth every penny. What riding comfort.

Good pad thickness, but nasty cutouts
While the thickness of the padding seems right for me, it unfortunately has lots of those deep, sharp cutouts that I find very irritating and uncomfortable.

"Butt Pillow" overrated
I think the quality of the shorts is comparable to big box brand. "Butt Pillow" is not going to make it on my century ride.

Nice and Comfortable
Being a larger guy I was wanting something a bit more comfortable than the cycling underwear I have purchased the past from Aerotech ( not bad underwear either). Besides I am starting to feel silly around the other cyclist I train with wearing shorts over the top. I wanted to try these out. The are very comfortable and the distribution of padding in the crotch is perfect. It is nice and cushy and the front part is thin and less bulky than the underwear.

Biking with comfort? This is the way.
I started mountain biking, and as a newbie I bought a pair of cycling shorts at a local store. As I have increased the amount of time when I mountain biking, the need for better padded shorts was evident. I weight 230 lbs and very thick legs, so extra padding is a most. I bought an XL. Unfortunately, it didn't fit my waist size. That one is on me. I had to wash the shorts 4 times before the dye stopped leaching, and this is my only negative. As someone who likes all natural, it didn't make me too comfortable thinking that my skin can absorb some of the chemicals from the leach. This shorts are a big plus for my mtb rides and now I can spend time out and not worry about the pain and aches from the saddle. I am planning to buy a second pair, this time a Large and see how well it fits, and in hopes I get a nice discount as Christmas present. Wink.

Great shorts
Rode 45 miles yesterday on the annual Withlachochee Trail Ride. Could not have done it with my old shorts. The Century's added padding makes a big difference on the bike but is not noticeable when off the bike.

Excellent padding
These shorts are confotable and provide proper padding. I did a short 23 miles trip on my road bike and did not feel any major discomfort. I should mention that sizes run on the large side. I am 5'-9", 160 lbs and 32" waist. I typically order a size medium. These were too large. Ordered a small and it fit perfectly. I am returning the medium and ordering a second pair in small.

ideal short for long rides
Bought these shorts just prior to my first century ride after spending lots of time in the saddle getting into shape. As I did longer and long rides I found none of my cycling shorts were comfortable on long rides. The century shorts with the butt pillow were amazing and I not only survived my 109 mile ride in comfort but I rode 86 the next day without any soreness. Highly recommend anyone doing longer rides to give them a try you won't be disappointed.

Worry-free shorts
I have now done a few rides wearing the men's Century cycling shorts. The shorts fit me very well (my waist measurement is at the upper end of the range for the size I bought), and I like the materials. The first pair I received was missing some stitches; though it was not a serious problem, Aero Tech practically insisted on replacing them, which they now have done. The padding is thicker than I consider ideal, noticeable when walking, plus the padding extends a couple of inches farther up in front than any part of me which could press against the saddle. However soon after I start riding, I no longer notice the shorts at all, which I think is about the most one can ask. There are other models with different padding that I will want to investigate, but I feel I can be confident in ordering from Aero Tech again.

Exceptional quality, fit, and padding
After years of weight lifting, then age and sedentary lifestyle, I needed larger, padded bicycle shorts to compliment my return to a healthier lifestyle. I tried several kinds until I came upon aero tech. There is no comparison, all others have fallen short! (Nip unintended)

Century Cycling shorts
They are the most comfortable shorts I've worn so far. I'm 6'3" 210 lbs and size large is about right for me. The padding is a bit wider than most. and keeps the soft body parts from getting a beating on the nose of the saddle.
