Special Agent Martha Dixon (Martinez) was a trailblazing FBI agent and former forensic chemist who became the first female SWAT member in the Knoxville Field Office before being killed in the line of duty during a 1994 shooting at D.C. Police Headquarters while defending her colleagues. To honor her courage and passion for community service, her family established Martha’s Ride. The ride includes a 320-mile endurance bicycle event from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. to the Martha Dixon FBI Field Office in Pittsburgh or a 10 or 30 mile ride from Pittsburgh's Southside on October 3rd to raise funds for The Martha Fund, which builds and renovates youth playgrounds across the Pittsburgh area.
