Pittsburgh Bike Film Festival

RE: 2020 Pittsburgh Bicycle Film Festival Announces Cancellation

To our local Pittsburgh cycling community, we want to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Pittsburgh Bike Film Festival which was scheduled for Sunday, March 22nd. As you may have heard, SouthSide Works has been acquired by the real estate investment firm Somera Road. The property includes the SouthSide Works Cinema, the slated venue for our March 22nd event. The theater is closing with uncertain timing and the 2020 film festival has been cancelled. Those who purchased advance tickets for the 2020 festival online will receive a refund from the Cinema.

Currently, we are crafting plans for the 2021 Pittsburgh Bike Film Festival. We encourage you to create short bike films for the 2021 festival! There will be cash prizes for the best film in several categories. The chosen short films will be screened at our 2021 event. We plan to accept film submissions until January 11, and we will provide more information about this opportunity soon.

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Come join us at the first Pittsburgh Bike Film Festival presented by Aero Tech Designs on March 22, 2020. We will be showing three films between 1pm - 6pm at SouthSide Works Cinema. All proceeds for this event will benefit Pittsburgh-area people with MS via Bike the US for MS!

Our featured film, The Bikes of Wrath, follows five Australians as they attempt to cycle 2600km from Oklahoma to California in honor of the westward migration undertaken by 'The Grapes of Wrath's' Joad family. Through chance encounters with everyday Americans, the cyclists expand on the novel's core themes of migration, inequality and the perceived land of opportunity. The Bikes of Wrath is a unique, funny and insightful documentary series filled with adventure, literature, music, and human connection.

Also showing are filmedbybike.org shorts collections: Bike Love and Adventure Shorts. These two films are comprised of many fun and exciting bike short films that will get you ready for the 2020 cycling season!

We will have representatives from local rail-trail organizations, bike clubs, cycling non-profits and Pittsburgh-area charity rides so you can learn more about cycling in the western PA region. Come see what's new at Aero Tech Designs and talk with Pittsburgh-area cyclists who pedal across the USA with Bike the US for MS! This will be a great opportunity to make your cycling plans for 2020!

FEATURED FILM: The Bikes of Wrath

Five Australians attempt to cycle 2600kms from Oklahoma to California in honour of the westward migration undertaken by 'The Grapes of Wrath's' Joad family. Through chance encounters with everyday Americans, the cyclists expand on the novel's core themes of migration, inequality and the perceived land of opportunity. The group explores whether America has progressed since the book was written, discussing the wealth gap, immigration and the American Dream. The fascinating people they meet along the way reveal the enduring strength of human spirit despite the inequality and disenfranchisement which runs as deep today, as it did in Steinbeck's seminal novel. The Bikes of Wrath is a unique, funny and insightful documentary series filled with adventure, literature, music, and human connection.
