Cathy's Big Ride Across America
Coraopolis Company Aero Tech Designs CEO To Embark on "The Big Ride Across America"
On June 15, Cathy Rogers, Founder and CEO of cycling apparel company Aero Tech Designs, Inc., will embark on a fast-paced cross-country tour from Redmond, Washington to Washington, D.C., covering 3,300 miles through 12 states. The trip is a product testing and development excursion, a fundraiser for the American Lung Association, and a lifelong dream come true.
Aero Tech designs and manufactures cycling clothing at their Coraopolis facility, which employs 38 people. Rogers is always seeking the best apparel innovations to improve the ride, and a cross-country tour is a great opportunity to test clothing to its limits. She will be wearing current Aero Tech designs and items from other brands sold on the Aero Tech website, as well as prototypes of new ideas Rogers and her team have been working on. Chief among her concerns are sun protection, long-distance comfort, chafe durability, and high visibility on the road. The tour group will also be sporting custom kits designed and sewn by Aero Tech.
"A cross-country bike tour is something I've always wanted to do, and I figured it's now or never," said Rogers. "It will be great to see how our clothing performs in the real world on a tough ride."
The busy life of a company CEO leaves Rogers with little time for training, but nevertheless, she wanted to tackle an ambitious tour. Her husband Paul Rogers is also an avid cyclist, and she was concerned about being able to keep up, so she will be riding a Pedego Interceptor electric bike to give her a boost. Still, the tour schedule calls for an average of 83 miles per day, with some days topping 100 miles-lots of pedaling will be involved.
The Big Ride Across America will be supported by VeloSante Cycling Services. Each of the 40 participants has raised donations and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific.
